Rejoicing In The Word For Christian Ladies – Plan for Victory, Part 1 (May 2026)

Our position in Christ is one of favor and privilege! There are many promises in the pages of Scripture from which we can draw hope and help for living.

Today, I would like to share with you the first of a list of personal promises that are available to each of us as God’s dear children: “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” 2 Peter 1:4.

God’s Word is present to instruct us; His power is sufficient to enable us. We must plan for victory by proving these promises in our daily living.

We are promised His sustaining power in temptation and trials – “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it” 1 Corinthians 10:13.

What are some of the common trials that we endure? I think of sickness, sorrow, and struggles with people, money, or circumstances of life.

We have some common responses to these trials as well.

(1) I think general panic is sometimes the way to describe my response. Haha!

(2) Certainly, some folks are tempted to give in or even quit. Giving up can look like anger or bitterness with God’s plan or with God Himself. Sometimes, giving up is embracing despair and defeat. Often, giving up can also mean going back on our habits of faithfulness and commitment to God’s will.

(3) A third response, and one I have found myself guilty of, is digging in and “powering through.” The question here is one of reliance – is my dependence on self or on Christ? God has promised His power to make us overcomers! Through Him, we can be a testimony in the trial… and that is nothing short of a miracle! But God is faithful! This verse promises that God will limit the trial; He will be faithful in the trial; and He will provide an exit at His appointed time.

I think about Abraham laying his own son upon the altar – how could He do it?! He counted Him faithful Who had promised to make a great nation through that very son! Abraham knew his friend, his God, was bound to make a way of escape, was bound to keep His Word, and was bound to provide a satisfactory sacrifice. Wasn’t he a testimony in the trial though?! The Bible tells us Abraham’s actions through this testing, but it does not tell us his thoughts. It tells us his obedience, not his feelings. And praise God – it tells us his victory! (Go to Genesis 22 to read the story of Abraham’s testing.)

This promise of God’s sustaining power in temptations and trials is the first of many promises that are available to Christians on an individual basis.

May the Lord help us to prove these promises each new day. (V.K.S.)
